ROSE CARVALHO After a courageous battle with cancer, it is with sadness, thankfulness, and peace that we announce the passing of Rose on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at the Grace Hospice at the age of 78 years. Rose's gift of life will continue to be remembered and celebrated by her beloved daughter Miriam (Stan) Amaladas and her precious grandchildren, Sacha and Kayla. She was predeceased by her husband Filu Carvalho. Although she had cancer and suffered a stroke, Rose never forgot her calling to be a Nurse. Rose was known to many as a gentle soul. She sat quietly, she listened well, she attracted others like a magnet and she loved to peak her curiosity through travel. Over her life she lived and worked in India, Africa, and Canada. Above all, Rose was a deeply spiritual person. She never hesitated to pray for all who needed a prayer. In her gentle attitude of nursing and even in pain, she continued to put Jesus, His Mother Mary, and all the saints in the middle of her life. Say a prayer to St. Anthony, she would remind us all, if there was ever an item that was misplaced! St. Anthony never let anyone who listened to Rose down! Towards the end of her life she asked that we not cry but to celebrate her life. Have a party she said! According to her wishes and paraphrasing Paul's 2nd letter to Timothy (4:1-8), we ask that you join us in celebrating Rose, the faithful servant, for fighting the good fight, for finishing the race well and for having kept the faith. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 29 at 2:00 p.m. in Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive, with Rev. Fr. Carl Tarnopolski, V. G., Rev. Fr. John Perry, S. J., and Rev. Fr. Gerald McDougall, S. J., presiding. The family wishes to give an extra special thank you to nurses, doctors on the 5th Floor of Victoria General Hospital and the Grace Hospice, all Eucharistic ministers and prayer partners. You know who you are! In particular we would like to thank nurses, Shawna, Marion, Michael, Allison, Gurdeep, Marites, Donna, Gaye, Judy, Amanda, Tiffany; doctors Penner, Greene, and Hartley, and prayer partner Sharon! Your unfailing support to both Rose and her family was a constant reminder of the presence of God's angels on earth. In lieu of flowers, and in memory of Rose, a donation may be made to the Grace Hospice or to a charity of your choice.
